Lesson 8: Higher Thinking Skills Through IT-Based Projects

Reflective study can indeed become a student's pleasurable and most proitable activity. Through reflecting, we can gain some insights our are minds are being stimulated with various thoughts. Reflective study is a way of exercising our higher thinking skills.
There are four types of IT-based projects which can effectively be used in order to engage students in activities of a higher mountain of thinking. These projects represent constructivist projects, containing the key elements of a constructivist approach to instruction namely:
1.) the teacher creating the learning environment,
2.) the teacher giving students the tools and facilities, and 3.) the teacher favilitating learning
The four IT-based projects are the following:
1. Resource-based projects
2. Simple Creations
3. Guided Hypermedia Projects
4. Web- Based Projects
The general flow of events in resource-based projects are : 1. The teacher determines the topic for the examination of the class.
2. The teacher presents the problem to the class.
3. The students find information on the problem/questions. 4. Students organize their information on the problem/questions.
In simple creations, creativity is said to combine three kind of skills or abilities:
1. Analyzing
2. Synthesizing
3. Promoting In guided hypermedia projects
The production of self-made projects can be approached in two different ways: As an instructive tool and as a communication tool.
In web-based projects, students can be made to create and post webpages on a given topic. As of now, this creativity project may be too ambitious as a tool in the teaching-learning process. Ambitious but then it is possible. We can make it possible. It's just a matter of choice.
