Lesson 6: IT Enters A New Learning Environment

There are useful models of school learning that is ideal to achieving instructional goals through preferred application of educational technology. These are models of Meaningful Learning, Discovery Learning, Generative Learning and Constructivism.
Meaningful Learning gives focus to new experience that is related to what the learner already knows. New experience gives attention to meaning.
The following are the assumptions of Meaningful Learning: 1.) Students already have some knowledge that is relevant to new learning, and
2.) Students are willing to perform class work to find connections between what they already know and what they can learn.
In Discovery Learning, students perform tasks to uncover what is to be learned. There is the generation of new ideas well as new decisions here in the learning process. In Discovery Learning, there is a great importance of the personal engagement of the student.
In Generative Learning, there are active learners who attend to learning events and generate meaning from this experience. What are seen to be crucial in this domain of learning are motivation and responsibility. Overall, generative learning gives emphasis to what can be done with the pieces of information.
In Constructivism, the learners build a personal understanding through appropriate learning activities and a good learning environment.
The following are the principles of constructivism:
1.) Learning consists in what a person can actively assemble for himself/herself.
2.) The role of learning is to help the individual live/adapt to his personal world.
Being acquainted with these new conceptual models, we are now aware that there are better ways to learn. And may we anchor these models in our methods of teaching.
